The OEM Sprinter differential cover is made of lightweight stamped metal, hangs lower than the actual differential, has a lip that can catch on obstacles and is commonly known to be prone to damage.
A damaged rear differential cover is predisposed to leaks, which in the worst case can lead to rear drive failure.
The HD rear differential cover is made of heavy-duty 1/4″ cast iron that provides superior strength and protection. It matches and even exceeds the protection offered by underride guard options, but has the other advantage of allowing the Sprinter to maintain optimum ground clearance, unlike an underride guard that hangs below the rear differential.
