A tree anchor strap is usually used to attach a winch cable to a tree. For this purpose, the strap is placed around the tree and the two loops are hooked into the winch cable. Of course, the tree anchor strap can also be used as a recovery strap for towing or pulling free. The name "Tree Trunk Protector" is only derived from the length of the harness and its usual purpose.

Under no circumstances should you place the rope of a winch directly around the tree and hook it into itself with the hook. A steel cable would cut into the tree and at the hook the cable would buckle and be damaged. Even with a synthetic rope, the kink at the hook would lead to a significant reduction in breaking load. Rubbing against the tree when tightening could damage individual fibres of the plastic rope.

The tree anchor strap is made of nylon. Both ends are folded, reinforced and protected with an additional cover. A sliding cuff serves as additional protection and should lie against the tree trunk.

Depending on the size of the rope hook, it is easier, especially with ATV winches, to securely fasten the tree anchor strap to the hook using an additional shackle.
