The T-MAX double battery system DBS02
Almost every caravan or tour vehicle has at least one more battery (supply battery) on board, so that the fridge and interior light does not have to be powered by the starter battery. By this way, you avoid that the vehicle cannot start because of a discharged starter battery.

With the help ot the T-Max split charge system, the 2 batteries which are mounted in the vehicle, will be automatically connected, as soon as the alternator gives up charging voltage, so that both batteries can be charged. If the engine is not running, the supply battery is automatically not disconnected from the starter battery. The reason is to avoid that both batteries discharge each other because of different charging end voltages or that e.g. the fridge discharges both batteries.

Because of the automatic separation, the T-Max split charge system is suitable for all lead-acid-, gel-(AGM) and winder batteries (e.g. Optima®), also in mixed configuration and independent of its capacity.

Functionalities

  • Automatic connecting

Because of the delivered high load relay (continuous current 250 A) the starter- and additional battery will automatically be connected as soon as the engine is running and the alternator gives up charging voltage of more than 13,3 Volt. In this case the green LED "Linked" shines green.

If the voltage falls under the value of 13,3 Volt, the batteries will be disconnected after a short time. By this way you avoid that the other consumers which are connected with the additional battery will also discharge the starter battery.

If a solar panel is connected with the additional battery and gives up charging voltage, both batteries will also be connected and the solar panel will also charge the starter battery.

  • Voltage indicator

If you press the key "DISPLAY" for 45 seconds, the voltage of the main- and additional battery is indicated. The scale goes from 11,0 up to 12,8 Volt and is separated in 3 colours: green, yellow and red.

While running the motor, a third scale indicates you the charging voltage in four separate coloured steps from 13,0 up to 14,5 Volt.

  • Manual connecting

If the main battery is low or by using the winch, both batteries can be manually connected. In this case, please press the key "AUTO/LINK". Then, the LED "Manually Linked" appears. The DBS02 goes back to automatic use after 30 minutes or by pressing the key "AUTO/LINK" again. After a few seconds the relay will be also disconnected.

Even if the starter battery is too low to start the vehicle, this function can be used. If you have very long and thick cables of the additional battey, you only have to connect both batteries manually and wait 15 to 30 minutes. After this time, normally the starter battery is sufficiently charged from the additional battery, so that a start should be possible.

  • Emergency operation

Emergency operation: the monitor of the battery is defect.

If the monitor of the battery is damaged, you have to disconnect the green power line at the relay (2) and connect it with the vehicle mass. Subsequently, the relay operates and connect both batteries with each other.

Emergency operation: starter battery is heavily discharged

If the starter battery is heavily discharged, it could be that the voltage will not be sufficient to use the DBS02. Herefore, you need the minimum of 8 Volt. The consequence is that probably the voltage will not be sufficient enough to operate the relay. Therefore, please make the following steps:

The short connecting cable of the relay (1) has to be clamped from the connector of the starter battery (3) to the connector of the additional battery (4). By this way, the relay is supplied with the power of the additional battery. After this, you have to connect with the mass like the upper description before (2). The relay will switch then.

Alternative (3) and (4) can also be bridged with a jump lead. Press the key "AUTO/LINK" for the manual connection and remove the jump lead. Please be careful because of a short circuit current.
