Our raising conversion kit reduces the risk of water entering the gearbox and differential when driving through water.
Both the differential gear and the manual gearbox are only partially filled with gear oil, the remaining cavity in the gearbox serves to compensate for temperature fluctuations and is open to the outside through vent holes.
If you drive with a warm gearbox (e.g. through a cold ford in Iceland), the housing and the air inside cool down quickly. This reduces the air density (because air contracts when it cools down). A negative pressure is created and air is sucked in via the gearbox ventilation. If the gearbox ventilation is below the waterline at this moment, dirty water can be sucked in.
Gearbox damage is then only a matter of time ...
With the help of our raising kit, the breather lines from the gearbox and differential are extended into the engine compartment and fed into a breather block. For vehicles equipped with a Snorkel, an extension is included in the kit. This allows the breather lines to be routed upwards on the Snorkel housing in order to achieve maximum elevation of the breather.
